Educated in the biological sciences, I
spent a large part of my life examining life through a
microscope, looking deep within to see a world often lost to
others. The sciences, however, didn’t quench the thirst for
creative expression and, after 10 years, I left my consulting
practice to successfully pursue oil painting as a full time
career. It is through a class in kilnforming, that I discovered
the thrill of glass as a creative medium. I have since studied
with some of the world’s top contemporary glass artists as well
as attending Pilchuck Glass School.
Glass is a technically challenging medium which satisfies my
scientific thought processes while allowing the exploration of
abstracted themes in nature that creatively excite me. Be it a
river’s edge, the intricacies seen through a microscope or a
camera’s lens, or the depths of the ocean, my work is about
close examination of the wonders that lie just out of our
everyday vision. The scale of the work ranges from intimate
hand held delicacies to wall-sized installations, and functional
through architectural art.
