We are pleased to announce a new artist, new works in new mediums by some of our established artists, and a new page on our website dedicated to highlighting new acquisitions.

Check them all out on our website.

*  Texas native LaNell Arndt joined the gallery this June.  LaNell is a member of the American Impressionist Society and a signature member of both the Oil Painters of America and Outdoor Painters Society.  Painting from life and the pure enjoyment of the outdoor landscape are the foundation of her work. Finding the incredible light and shadow as they appear all around us are inspirations for her painting "en plein air".  LaNell also creates beautiful impressionistic still-lifes.

*  Finis Collins is a member of the infamous Watercolor Gang from San Antonio, a close knit group of artists who travel the world together encouraging, and good-naturedly attempting to out paint, each other.  Recently Finis turned his attention to oils and has created very vibrant and dramatic depictions of local watercraft.  Unlike his light and fantastical watercolors, these paintings are deep and moody, splashed with intense color.

*  Another member of the Watercolor Gang, E. Gordon West, has just brought us a series of sketches depicting scenes in and around Port Aransas, including the historic Tarpon Inn.  They are lovely, light pieces that capture the wonderful feeling of island life.  Gordon will be the featured artist in the June issue of The American Watercolor Society's Newsletter. And last, but definitely not the least, the book "Watercolors by E. Gordon West" will soon be published.

*  Bill Edwards continues to take photography to new limits.  He has been working with a team of folks putting together an Indy Car Race Team called Kingdom Racing.  He designed the graphic identity and served as the Brand Strategy Manager for this endeavor.  This was the first time one of his graphic designs has traveled around a track at 223 mph on national TV, or anywhere else for that matter. Bill was also a featured artist at the April ArtWalk in Galveston with his unique fish and waterfowl photoart. It was an honor for him to submit one of his "Redfish Tails" to be included in the Brandon Backey Benefit for Children at the Shriner's Hospital (Burn Center) in Galveston.

*  A get well wish to potter, Lynn Dickey.  Lynn broke her wrist earlier in the year and is still getting her strength back.

*  Ceramicist Kate Prejean is participating in a show of a different sort this summer.  She is being honored with more than 100 Texas women surfers in a major exhibit titled Texas Women, Texas Waves at the Texas Surf Museum in Corpus Christi.

*  On Saturday, August 16, from 5-8 p.m. we will have a one man show of new work by Kyle Polzin.  Original still-lifes and landscapes will be available as well as signed and remarked reproductions.  We will send out an email prior to the show with more details, and will update the website as we get images of the paintings to be offered. None of the paintings will be sold prior to the show.  Kyle will be featured in the July 2008 issue of Gulfscapes Magazine; it will include several of the paintings that will be in the show.

*  Saturday, October 25th, is the date for the 2nd Annual Port A ArtAbout.  Galleries and studios on our lovely barrier island will open their doors and offer refreshments for a pleasant Autumn evening get-together.  We are planning a special show and sale for this event that will highlight local landmarks as interpreted by award winning artists.

*  Turtle Trail 2008 is off to a running start. Two “hatchings” have already produced over a dozen artistically enhanced cast aluminum models of Ridley’s sea turtles, each one individually painted by a professional artist.  The entire bale of turtles will be offered at auction this fall to benefit the ARK, the Animal Rehabilitation Keep, housed at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.  The ARK takes in wounded animals, marine and terrestrial, and nurses them back to health so they can return to a life in the wild.  Four more hatchings will occur on Mustang Island (7/25-Mustang Gallery, 8/21–The Back Porch, 9/19-Art Center for the Islands, 10/18–Tortuga Dunes), culminating in a grand preview of over 40 terrapins, some flying from our ceilings, at Port A Gallery on Friday, November 7, followed by a dinner and auction the next evening at the Port Aransas Civic Center.  Please join us in supporting this fine educational and environmental cause, and add a unique piece of original art to your collection.

Have an enjoyable Summer and stop in to see us,

Linda Morgan, Rick and Cameron Pratt
